Professional Fit
New Balance is a performance brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete.
Part of producing superior footwear and athletic apparel is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes,
because a better fit produces better performance. New Balance understands that fit is much more than just a
shoe size. That’s why the fit specialists at our stores are trained to provide each of our customers with
a professional fit.
Specialists In Each Store
At our Delaware, DC, NOVA, and Richmond locations there are sixteen Procare Fit Specialists
and three Certified Pedorthists. What is a Procare Fit Specialist?
A Procare Fit Specialist is someone
that has completed New Balance Athletic Shoe’s comprehensive online training and has successfully passed
their online exams, as well as, trained one on one with our on staff Pedorthist.
The Procare training
offers our employees the tools to measure length, width, and arch length using a Brannock (measuring device)
device. This helps determine the proper size and width for each customer. In addition to the Brannock device,
our stores use the Pressure Stats and the I-Step machine to help determine the customer’s arch height,
foot size, and pressure points. These are tools that help us provide the proper shoe for your foot type.
Our staff is trained to know that low to medium arches normally need some type of medial support and a
high arched foot requires a neutral shoe to help with lateral support.
26 Bones
Did you know that the foot has 26 bones which make up one quarter of the bones in your body? The foot is a
complex structure that takes a lot of wear and tear as we age. When running the force is three times your
body weight on your foot. Therefore, it is only natural that our feet elongate and spread as we age.
Here at New Balance Brandywine, New Balance Christiana, New Balance DC, New Balance Richmond, and New Balance
Tysons Corner we understand how important is to get a proper fit and that is
why we will offer to measure your feet every time you visit one of our store locations. We know that not
only is it important that you get the right size, but also the correct shoe for your specific activities.
At our five store locations you will find that we stock women's shoes from size 5 to 12 and widths from
2A to 4E. Men's we stock from size 7 to 16 and widths from B to 6E. Our kid’s shoes are available in
infant sizes from 2 to 10 in Medium, Wide and Extra wide widths. Preschool and Grade-school sizes run
from 10.5 to 7.0 in narrow, medium, wide, and extra wide widths.
Remember not all feet are alike, so
multiple sizes and widths are designed for those hard to fit feet. New Balance also uses multiple lasts.
What is a last? (The molding of the foot used to build a shoe). New Balance offers several different lasts
to accommodate those hard to fit feet. For someone with narrow feet you might want to try our SL-1 or
PL-1 last. For someone that has a wide forefoot and narrow heel you will want to try our SL-2 last.
The SL-2 last is a shoe that has a wide and deep toe box, a high instep, and a narrow heel.
Basically this type of fit is very accommodating and provides more internal volume in the shoe.
For anyone that has a very difficult foot to fit, please feel free to ask for one of our Procare Fit
Specialists or make an appointment with one of our Board Certified Pedorthists.
